Friends of Puglia at the Italian Republic Day

Sunday, June 2, 2010 has been an important anniversary for Italy.

As every year on June 2, Italy recalls the choice of the voters (for the first time universal suffrage): after 85 years, with 12,718,641 votes against 10,718,502 Italy became a Republic and the monarchs of the House of Savoy were sent to exile.

This year, besides celebrating 64 years of the Italian Republic, we have also celebrated the 150th anniversity of the Unity of Italy.

These were the first thoughts of the speech of the Consul General of Italy in London, Uberto Vanni d'Archirafi during the reception held on June 6, 2010 at the Italian Cultural Institute. Friends of Puglia has joined the other Italian associations in London and prominent figures, including the Consul Paola Coliandro, Hon. Guglielmo Picchi and Sen. Raffaele Fantetti.

The evening was also an opportunity to do networking and to come up with great ideas for some new projects which we will tell you about soon.
