Lonely Planet Guide to Puglia
Lonely Planet has recently published a dedicated guide to Puglia and Basilicata for the English market.
The guide is complete and up-to-date, containing information on the latest trends in Puglia’s cinema (including an interview to Winspeare) and on the current hub of activity on the Puglia music scene, with mentions of music as diverse as Sud Sound Systems, reggae, Notte della Taranta and Pizzica.
Leafing through the guide I had lots of thoughts but the section I found of most interest and that made me want to get in touch with Lonely Planet was the initial section outlining the top 10 must-dos in Puglia and Basilicata.
Excluding the locations in Basilicata, the top locations, with comments, can be summarised as follows:

Lecce - Santa Croce
- Lecce, with its pure and proud style
- Martina Franca, with its elegant baroque buildings
- Trani, where the cathedral seems to be emerging from the sea like a Venus
- Castel del Monte, the magic castle
- Vieste, with its pure white sand
- Valle D’Itria, with the beautiful pearl-white buildings
- Gallipoli, Puglia’s answer to Portofino
What do you think? Do you think that the beach near your home has been unfairly looked over? Do you think Gallipoli should be further up the list or that Bari deserves a special mention? Should Ostuni be number one on the list?
Send us your comments, explaining why you think you have produced the definitive list of top Puglia locations.
